Veteran Tuition Coverage
Tuition will be covered by the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) under the Post 9/11 GI Bill® (Chapter 33) and Veteran Readiness & Employment (VR&E – Chapter 31), based on the student's benefit coverage level. For students qualifying below full (100%) Chapter 33 coverage, remaining tuition will be due prior to the start of the term. For the Veteran Readiness & Employment (VR&E – Chapter 31) students, once the VA authorization has been received, tuition will be fully covered for courses under the approved programs. To avoid possible deregistration, due to non-payment, it's critical that VA documentation be submitted and processed prior to registering.
Tuition and fees will be due at the time of registration for students using the Montgomery GI Bill® Active Duty (Chapter 30), Selected-Reserve (Chapter 1606), Post-Vietnam Era Veterans’ Educational Assistance Program (Chapter 32) or Survivors' and Dependents' Educational Assistance (Chapter 35). VA will then provide a direct entitlement based on enrollment.
Late fees are not paid by the VA under any chapter, and students will be responsible for any late registration fees that are incurred. Only online or Guided Study courses are eligible for VA education benefits coverage at Thomas Edison State University. TECEP®, Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) and e-Pack® courses are ineligible.
Military Students
Students who are active-duty military may be eligible for tuition assistance. Students can contact their military education office for details. Army and National Guard wishing to use tuition assistance should use the Army’s Tuition Assistance portal located at https://armyignited.cce.af.mil/. Active-duty, reserve, and National Guard service members pursuing an undergraduate degree from Thomas Edison State University are advised to be in either the Military Degree Completion Program (MDCP) or the Navy College Program Distance Learning Partnership (NCPDLP). Service members not pursuing a Thomas Edison State University undergraduate degree still qualify for MDCP or NCPDLP tuition rates.
Students participating in the military education programs have an academic residency requirement. Twenty-four credits must be earned from Thomas Edison State University for bachelor’s degree students, and 12 credits must be earned from Thomas Edison State University for associate degree students. To be eligible for tuition assistance, these credit hours must apply towards their degree program.
Thomas Edison State University is a participating institution in the Navy College Program Distance Learning Partnership (NCPDLP), the Navy College Program for Afloat College Education (NCPACE),) and the ArmyIgnitED program. It is also a Level One provider for both the Coast Guard Institute and the Army National Guard Education Support Center.
