Course Drop and Withdrawal Policy
Course Drop and Withdrawal Policy
A drop or withdrawal request must be processed online or be made on the Request for Course Drop/Withdrawal Form found in the Course Manual, online at Course Drop/Withdrawal Request Form or in an email addressed to registrar@tesu.edu.
Course Statuses and Grades Assigned:
DROP (D) – Given when courses are dropped before the first day of the term, no grade assigned.
WITHDRAW STATUS AND EARLY WITHDRAW (EW) GRADE– Given when courses are withdrawn within the first nine (9) days of the term.
WITHDRAW (W) AND WITHDRAW (W) GRADE– Given when courses are withdrawn as of the tenth (10) day of the term.
- A request for course drop/withdrawal must be submitted by the last day of the term. Drop or withdrawal requests submitted after the term end will not be accepted, except in the case of an approved course extension. Students will not be permitted to withdraw after an official course extension has ended.
- Thomas Edison State University courses with grades of EW and W are recorded on the transcript but will not be calculated into the GPA.
- Stopping payment on credit cards or checks does not constitute an official drop or withdrawal, nor does it relieve the student from their finical obligation to the University. Failure to drop or withdraw officially will result in the forfeiture of any refund, does not clear any term balance, and may result in a failing grade.
- Failure to submit assignments or take examinations does not constitute an official drop or withdrawal, nor does verbal notification to the mentor or to any member of the University staff before the end of the term.
- Courses with a grade of EW do not court as repeat attempts for the Graduate Course Repeat policy. Courses with a grade of W do not court as repeat attempts for the Graduate Course Repeat policy.
Procedures
- A written drop/withdrawal request must cite the student's course code, course name, and the mentor's name as well as the student's name and University ID number. The postmark or email will constitute the official drop/withdrawal date.
- If a student wishes to withdraw from a degree program at the University, the student must submit the University Enrollment Withdrawal Form or in writing to the Office of the Registrar.
